Topics and Clusters
Pillar-cluster model and topic progress tracking
Wyrote organizes your keywords into topic clusters using a pillar-cluster model. This is a proven SEO architecture that helps search engines understand your expertise in a subject area and rewards you with better rankings.
What Is a Pillar-Cluster Model?
The pillar-cluster model organizes content around topics:
- Pillar Content — Comprehensive, broad articles that cover an entire topic at a high level (e.g., "Complete Guide to Email Marketing")
- Cluster Content — Specific, detailed articles that dive deep into subtopics (e.g., "Best Email Subject Lines for B2B", "Email Marketing Automation Tools")
- Internal Links — Cluster articles link back to the pillar article, and the pillar links out to its clusters
This creates a web of interconnected content that signals topical authority to search engines.
Accessing Topics
Click Topics in the sidebar navigation to view all your keyword clusters.
Topics Page
The page shows clusters grouped by offering. Each cluster card displays:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Cluster Name | The topic name |
| Anchor Keyword | The primary keyword for this cluster |
| Search Volume | Monthly search volume for the anchor keyword |
| Terms Count | Number of keywords in this cluster |
| Pillar Articles | Number of pillar articles planned |
| Support Articles | Number of supporting articles planned |
| Progress Bar | Published articles vs. total — how complete the cluster is |
| Status | Not started / In progress / Completed |
Clusters are sorted and grouped by offering, with pagination per group.
Cluster Status
Each cluster has a progress status:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Not Started | No articles from this cluster have been published |
| In Progress | Some articles are published, but the cluster isn't complete |
| Completed | All planned articles for this cluster are published |
Why Topic Clusters Matter
Topical Authority
Search engines increasingly reward websites that demonstrate deep expertise in a topic. By publishing a complete cluster of related content:
- You cover a topic comprehensively
- Internal links create clear topical relationships
- Your domain becomes an authority on that subject
Better Rankings
Completing a topic cluster can lift rankings for all articles in the cluster, including the pillar article. The interconnected nature of the content creates a rising-tide effect.
Content Organization
For your readers, topic clusters create a logical content structure. Users can find the pillar article for an overview, then drill into specific subtopics they care about.
How Wyrote Builds Clusters
During the strategy pipeline:
- Keyword Discovery generates 100+ keywords per offering
- Topic Clustering (Phase 4) uses AI to group related keywords
- Each group becomes a cluster with:
- An anchor keyword (the most important keyword)
- Related keywords (supporting terms)
- Planned content (pillar and support articles)
The clustering considers:
- Semantic similarity between keywords
- Search intent alignment
- Logical topic groupings
- Content opportunity (volume vs. difficulty balance)
Tracking Your Progress
On the Topics Page
View progress for each individual cluster — see how many articles are published vs. planned.
On the Dashboard
The Topic Progress card shows your top 5 clusters with:
- Progress bars with percentage
- Color coding: Gray (0–24%), Yellow (25–49%), Blue (50–99%), Green (100%)
On the Offering Detail Page
The Topics tab for each offering shows all clusters with their keyword tags and content counts.
Best Practices
- Complete clusters before starting new ones — Search engines reward depth over breadth. Finishing a cluster has more SEO impact than scattering articles across many topics.
- Start with low-competition clusters — Clusters with lower average KD scores are easier to rank for and will give you early wins.
- Publish pillar content first — The pillar article provides the foundation that cluster articles link back to.
- Don't skip support articles — Even lower-volume keywords contribute to your topical authority.
